Augusta came to us as a stray when she was about a year old. Mom and Dad tried to find her previous owner, but no one claimed her. To the great satisfaction of the older kids (we younger girls weren’t old enough to remember it), we kept the beagle, and named her Augusta Cheyenne.
She was a great dog, especially for us little kids, because she never bit or even growled at us. We girls usually walked her, because our short strides matched her short legs.
Augusta loved a good rabbit trail; Nate remembers trying to hunt rabbits with her, but she liked following the trail better than catching them. We have so many wonderful memories of her time here with us.
When we got General as a puppy, Augusta was his first animal friend on our farm. They became good friends, although Augusta would never let him near her food! As Augusta started to fail in the past few months, General kept watch over her and let us know whenever she would begin to wander away following her nose (as beagles always do!).
We miss her so much. So so so much!
